What happened this week was a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to all of the victims and their families.
To be clear, as the NTSB has stated, this was NOT a tourist flight or operation, for which there are a specific series of rules and regulations that differ from general aviation flights like the helicopter involved in yesterday’s incident. Any banning of tourist flights would not have prevented this tragedy.
We strongly encourage everyone to allow the NTSB and other professionals to determine the facts of what actually occurred yesterday. The Eastern Region Helicopter Council is always working to improve the safety of helicopter travel and wewelcome any and all suggestions on how to achieve this goal.
