You get out whatcha put in
What the heck is a "Stake Exchange"?*
- Committee Participants
(Level of Challenge: •)
- All committees are short on participants. If you have an interest area, please contact the committee leader and let them know how you can help. It doesn't have to be time consuming or painful, much committee work can be done just by thinking, and sharing your thoughts. You get out of it what you put into it. Try being someone whose actions make a difference in this business. You might like it
- Newsletter Protege (Level of Challenge: depends on experience)
- The current newsletter producer has been on the job for some years, and is wiling to continue, but welcomes any interested party willing to take on the task. Requires some computer savvy and ideally graphic design and journalism experience. Ad sales talent is helpful but not critical if we can get anyone to help with that (see above listing).
- Webmaster Protege (Level of Challenge: depends on experience)
- This is a tricky one. The current three ERHC sites have been designed and set up and are maintained by one person. Backup help is needed ASAP to cover cases of illness, vacation, etc of primary web maintainer. Long-term we need someone to transition the full job to. Knowledge of html, css, web site apps such as Dreamweaver are essential.
- ENG Committee Leader (Level of Challenge: •••)
- There is a leadership vacuum here that really really really needs to be taken up. ENG is an integral part of the local aviation scene, and with ENG heli ops in the news last year due to the mid-air collision, and the fact that ENG continues to produce a large percentage of our noise complaints, and none of us on the board now has the expertise to do what needs to be done. ERHC will continue to advocate and defend ENG operators, but we don't have the expertise or inside knowledge to make this sector as good as it can be. And we might, in our good intent, not get things quite right in our communications with the public, and that's not the right state of affairs. Please volunteer now. ENG needs you.
- Membership Committee Leader and Recruiters
(Level of Challenge: ••)
- Associate Members need to be increased. There are many service providers who are out there who are not members, and we need someone to identify them, and follow up. ERHC has a member brochure in paper and electronic form for your use and can coach you in technique. Please help.
- Individual Membership is stagnant and needs to grow. The annual meeting 2007 saw many new faces and good ideas from these members. Please get involved now, and talk up individual membership with your colleagues. Even if your company is a regular member, please show your committment to our mission by joining. The cost is comparable to, say, two medium pizzas, so ask yourself, what's more important, professional commitment or bad nutrition? After the epiphany, share with others.
- Regular Membership, we believe, represents the majority of operators in the region. Many times elected leaders have asked us what percentage of helicopters out there are operated by our members and we just don't know. The task of finding operators and asking them to join will require phone calls, research, and some footwork but we'd really like to make sure everyone in our region who operates a helicopter knows us and has the opportunity to joi
- Advertising Seller (Level of Challenge: •)
- The newsletter needs to pay for itself; lately it hasn't been with advertisers departing. The right seller has a nose for good prospects and an attention to detail for good contacts, follow ups, recordkeeping. The person should be gregarious and somewhat familiary with the graphic arts. An advertiser informaton sheet is already ready for use.
- Talent Sharing
(Level of Challenge: varies)
- We have a number of initiatives and ideas. Some involve the use of technology, some just need raw human horsepower and time committment. If you've got a skill, talent, equipment, idea, etc. and you're willing to put it to use for an ERHC initiative/objective, let us know so we don't just skip an idea because we personally can't do it. Let us know the skills, talents, software, equipment resources you will share with us and we'll combine ideas and time and make the ERHC and the world a bit better.
*We just made up that term. Trying to think about the give and take in an organization like ours. How to improve the communication in physical and temporal terms. It's not a misspelling of "steak"!
You Members have a stake in ERHC's success and well-being. ERHC exists to serve the members. At our May, 2007, meeting in Mahwah, Jim Church, past IFR committee leader, the man behind the years-long effort to change the FARs on helicopter IFR alternate minima, and former Chairman of HAI, shared the retirement-time wisdom that we should all give a bit of ourselves back to this industry that provides such a wonderful job and way of life.
The term "stakeholder" has recently entered the common lexicon meaning someone who has an interest in something, may be affected by changes in something, while not being directly involved in that thing.
So, members have a stake in ERHC, and ERHC needs the exchange of ideas, time, commitment, and volunteerism. Hence, we introduce the following list of things we volunteer leaders of ERHC need your help with. Look at it as a community 'to-do' list or an opportunity-to-excel list and so on.
